Terms of Use

Plain rules for using this site, and a careful word about what the situation checker and the deadline tools can and cannot tell a person whose home has just been sold.

(888) 864-FILE

A private organization that works with former homeowners, heirs and occupants after a foreclosure sale publishes PostForeclosureRecovery.org. Using the site means you accept the rules on this page. They run short, and the part about the deadline tools repays a careful reading whenever a court date is near.

Why the site exists

The pages set out general information on what follows a foreclosure or a tax sale, and they are here for your personal use. Read them, print them, store them, forward one to a relative. Two neighboring pages form part of these rules: the notice on the limits of this site, which explains that a private organization runs the site and that nothing here is legal advice, and the handling of anything you type in, which covers the forms.

The situation checker and the deadline tools

A situation check and a set of date tools are offered on this site. Read them as sorting aids, the kind a front desk uses to route people, and nothing more. They drop your answers into broad buckets and apply the ordinary rule for each bucket.

Not one of them yields a legal opinion. No tool has laid eyes on your proof of service or your notice. None of them knows your state’s court holidays, a local practice rule, or the exact words your buyer chose. A result can be right in general and still wrong for you. When a tool and your own papers point different ways, the papers control, every single time. Running a tool opens no engagement with the organization, and no deadline pauses because you ran one.

Use that is out of bounds

Please steer clear of the following:

  • turning the site to any unlawful end, to harassment, or to posing as another person
  • feeding in made-up details, or a real person’s details when that person has not agreed
  • aiming automated or bulk submissions at the forms or the tools
  • testing the site’s defenses, swamping it with traffic, or reaching for its server
  • lifting the content in bulk, framing the pages, or passing the material off as yours
  • showing anything taken from here to a former owner, a renter or an heir as though a court, a county or another public body had put it out

Ownership of the words and the pictures

Copyright in the writing, the layout, the tools and the graphics rests with the organization that runs this website, or the material sits under license to it. Photographs come licensed from Unsplash. You are welcome to personal copies and to short quotations that give credit. Reposting the site, or scraping it to fill another site, calls for written permission first. The statutes and the court rulings cited across these pages are public law, and no one owns those.

Nothing here points off the site

The links on these pages lead only to other pages of this same site. Where a page mentions a county recorder, a court clerk, a state attorney general or an unclaimed property program, it prints the name alone and leaves you to look that office up through a source you already trust. That choice carries a lesson worth holding onto: if a message borrows this site’s name and then routes you elsewhere to pay a fee or surrender personal details, read it as a fake and confirm through the phone and address printed here.

Where the organization’s responsibility stops

The site comes as it is. Accuracy is the aim, and still, statutes change, courts revise how they read them, and people slip. No page is warranted to be current, whole or free of error, and the site is not promised to stay reachable at all times.

To the fullest extent the law permits, neither the organization that runs this website nor its specialists, advocates or staff answers for a loss traced to use of the site, to reliance on its pages or tools, or to the site being down. A deadline missed while relying on the site falls inside that limit. Duties owed to a client under a signed written agreement sit outside it, and so does anything the law will not let be limited.

Governing law and later changes

These terms are read under the law of [governing state to be confirmed], setting aside its conflict-of-laws rules. A revised version takes effect the moment it is posted here, and the version live on the day you visit is the one that governs that visit. This text carries the date September 22, 2026. Questions can travel through the ways to reach a specialist.

A tool handed you a date. Have a person weigh it against your papers.
